TROY- Leonard A. “Rocky” Rockwell, 87, of Columbia Cross Roads, PA went to be with his Lord on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at the Troy Community Hospital surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Mary (Albrecht) Rockwell. The couple married June 17, 1976 and had 36 happy years together.
A graveside celebration of Rocky’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at Sylvan Hill Cemetery, Watkins Hill Road in Columbia Cross Roads, PA, with his pastor, Rev. Garry Zuber officiating. The Troy Veterans Honor Guard will give military honors. The Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 1093 West Main Street Troy, PA, has been entrusted with arrangements.
Rocky was born on January 13, 1925 in Elmira, NY, son of the late Arthur B. and Goldie (Carpenter) Rockwell. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving his country during World War II in Europe. During the Battle of The Bulge, Rocky and a fellow soldier were stranded behind enemy lines for a month. After the war he worked for American LaFrance in Elmira, NY, designing fire engines and bidding on contracts to build them. Rocky enjoyed taking trips to the beach, reading, and antique cars. He designed and built two of the homes he lived in throughout his adult life. Rocky attended East Troy Baptist Church with Mary and was a member of the Troy Vet’s Club. He was a loving husband and father who would rather be at home with his family than be anywhere else.
Rocky is survived by his loving wife Mary, his children: Rodney (Beverly) Rockwell of Berkshire, NY, Dayl Ripley and her companion Al Colegrove of Mansfield, PA, and Jennifer (Matthew) Bednar of Allentown, PA, his grandchildren: Matthew Rockwell, Mark Rockwell, Darcey (Tom) Sarosi, and Kyle Rapchak, his sister Connie Evans of Elmira, NY, along with several nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death.
