Would you refer us to others? Yes, I was raised in northern Maryland/Southern PA. All of our friends and family have always used Hartenstein’s Funeral Home, New Freedom PA. Mom and Dad moved to York and pre-arranged their funeral with you, not knowing Hartenstein’s also did it. I was very leery at first, however in dealing with Matt and how we were treated, I was very impressed.
Additional comments: I can’t express enough how my Mother and I were treated with respect and thoughtfulness.
The professional way Matt handled everything was wonderful. Friends have even mentioned how they noticed when I had asked a couple of older ladies to come and sit down under the tent because it was so cold and raining, he went over to them, held the umbrella and helped them to the chairs. Then he went and got a warm blanket and laid it across us all.
It might be his job, but it felt like he went above and beyond and he will always have a place in our hearts for helping us through that hard time of losing my father, and my mother losing her husband of 61 years.

Reason for selecting us: The single most reason was Matt. Second to that, was your facility – it’s appearance and that it had a chapel for the service.
Would you refer us to others? Yes, our family commented repeatedly how professional everyone was, and how well done everything was. Our remembrance of my father was complete, by way of your attention to every detail, and how your staff conducted themselves. Matt specifically made our pain easier to bear, because he took care of my father, his arrangements, our guests and us.
Additional comments: Matt is phenomenal, a caring person who took care of details before we could and those we would not have thought of. He was always kind and met with us after hours. He even came in on his day off to oversee my father’s service. I cannot thank him enough, or describe in words, how his kindness held the hand of our hearts those difficult days. Your organization is top-notch. If one could define, you are the Nordstrom in this Wal-Mart world; service above our expectations, no questions asked. Matt even purchased a frame for us so the photo you made, could be placed by his casket. I could go on and on, but suffice it to say, Matt is wonderful; your support staff is wonderful, and the men who helped at the gravesite were wonderful. If you ever need a reference, call me anytime.

Betty was kind and courteous. When my husband and I visited the chapel, Betty allowed me to see inside the crematory as I had questions about this process. My concern was that I wanted to make sure my Mother was being cremated alone and her remains were the ones I was getting. After seeing the crematory, I pre-arranged my Mother's cremation. Six months after meeting Betty, my Mother unexpectedly passed away. My family and I met with Matt to make sure everything was still as we had pre-arranged. Although we were having a private family viewing, it was still important that my Mother look as well as could be expected. I must complement your staff because my Mother looked BEAUTIFUL! Matt allowed our family a generous amount of time for our farewell. I accompanied my Mother to the crematory. The staff treated her very respectfully during this process. Your staff allowed me to fulfill my final promise to my Mother. (She wanted me to make sure her body went in and it was her ashes that came out) Thank you for having my Mother look like the lady she was and treating her remains with such respect. After some time passed and my grief is less, I will be making an appointment to pre-arrange my cremation. Thank You!

My Mother was ill for a very long time. Many of the family members who were at the family viewing were amazed at how beautiful Mom looked. How you used a picture and made her look like she did fifteen years ago was wonderful. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren have a last memory of Mom, as do I, to keep in our hearts. The staff went above and beyond anything we expected. Mom was treated with respect and dignity. My family feels we were also treated with the same respect and dignity. All of your staff members were so helpful. They went above and beyond my expectations for customer service. Matt was extremely professional and made my sister and I feel very comfortable with our decisions.
My Mother was always very particular about the way she appeared in public. Over the past few years as she weakened, she was unable to have her hair done and "look" the way she always liked to. I must tell you how pleased my sister and I were when we saw her for the first time at the viewing. She was our Mother again, even in death.
